ABOUT ME

I'm Kayleigh Gill. I grew up in Fair Haven, New Jersey, a small town, minutes from the ocean. Living in a small town gave me the opportunity appreciate the outdoors. When I was in preschool, I had told my family that I wanted to be a flower picker when I grew up, and I'd like to say that I got pretty close to my childhood dream. When thinking about what degree to pursue in college, landscape architecture seemed to fit perfectly with my creative side, along with my love for the environment and science.

Moving to Florida for college was a big change, but learning about the differences in the plants, wildlife, and geology was very interesting. This is when I truly realized how big of an impact plants can have on people's day to day experiences. The planning of the city infrastructure was a juxtaposition to that of New Jersey, since the typical Florida neighborhood is a subdivision with no through roads as opposed to New Jersey that had always multiple routes that could get you to the same place.

My work experience with Landscape Design Associates helped me with my efficiency in design and planning while still allowing creative freedom. The small format helped me learn the value of creating welcoming spaces for people to interact with.

From there I decided on a change of scenery again again and move to Raleigh. Since I have lived in Raleigh, I have grown both personally and professionally. I have learned the values of being able to work on a larger team while also learning how to install a backsplash in my time off. I have been able to work on and give input on trail systems that I can one day walk my dogs on. As I continue through my career, I hope to continue growing and learning, impacting the environments around me.
