WITCHWOOD PARK

This was my first landscape design project, taken place in the spring semester of 2017. The objective was to create a space that correlated with the use of a building that was to be placed in the site. In this case, I chose a building for advanced music classes. Surrounding this institution, I added additional programs that would attract musicians of all ages and skill, so that they could improve their talents in the same area as people who could give advice and help.

My inspiration for this design came from the idea that music itself is a combination of both logic and creativity, paradoxically seen as man-made structure and nature. The straight pathways represent hard, rigid, structural knowledge, while the spiraling pathway represents free-spirited, unpredictable nature. The music institute, the amphitheater, and the nodes along the pathways that serve as miniature amphitheaters are all shaped in circles, which I believe to be a perfect example of the blend between logic and creativity, as there is a mathematical way to measure and create a circle, but it is also found often in nature. These circles happen to be the location of every musical area on site, as music is another example of this perfect blend.
